ITINERARYITINERARY
DAY 1 – Cusco Km. 104 - Chachabamba - Wiñayhuayna - Aguas Calientes
  • Meals: lunch and dinner
Pickup at 6.30 to 7.00 am and we start our drive to Ollantaytambo in order to take a scenic train ride to Chachabamba, where we start our trek, from the KM 104 of the Inca Trail. We need to pass through the control points for the Inca Trail - then we are ready to go. During the trek you will have the chance to visit the archaeological ruins of Chachabamba, pass through wonderful Andean landscapes and see a beautiful waterfall as we make our way through the wonderful cloud forest. We then arrive at the amazing Inca site of Wiñayhuayna, where we will have lunch. After another 1.5 hours of walking we later reach the Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun) site, from where we can enjoy a beautiful view of the Machu Picchu site. We will then make our way down to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night.

DAY 2  Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
  • Meals: breakfast only - bring some extra snacks with you for inbetween. Food can be purchased in Machu Picchu or you can wait until you are in Aguas Calientes mid afternoon.
Today we have an early breakfast so we are ready to leave around 5am and start on our trek up to the Machu Picchu ruins. At the ruins your guide will take you on a tour of the site. We will visit enclosures, plazas, sacred fountains, temples, towers and he will explain the different functions of each area such as the agricultural and urban sections. The tour lasts for approx 2 hours and you will then have free time to explore the site yourself.
After spending some hours at Machu Picchu we unfortunately have to leave and the group will take the shuttle bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes before taking the train back to Cusco. You must be at the train station at least 30 minutes before your train departure time and the train journey takes about 1 hour 45 mins to get to Ollantaytambo, where we will transfer to a private bus to take you back to Cusco (you will be dropped off at the main square in Cusco).
