ITINERARYITINERARY
DAY 1
Pickup at the airport / bus station and you will be taken to the office for the check-in and a short briefing. Then we leave Puerto Maldonado and set off on a 30-minute boat ride towards the Superior Lodge, where you will be shown the whole structure of the lodge and your private room. The journey to the lodge is a real adventure itself, a wonderful ride through the Madre de Diós river and the beautiful nature of this part of the Amazon. Once at the lodge, a delicious, typical and fresh lunch will be served, then we start our afternoon activies. Today we go for a short walk around the lodge in order to start feeling the surrounding environment - our knowledgeable guide will explain you about how the forest is composed and its main characteristics. Enjoy some time immersed in this wonderful piece of paradise and listen to the sounds of the huge variety of native birds. As the sun goes down, we will then embark on a fascinating canoe ride along the river and discover the local ecosystem and the behaviour of nocturnal animals. Back to the lodge, we will have dinner and chill out for the rest of the evening.

DAY 2
A delicious buffet breakfast to start the day with the right vibes. On the second day we go for a morning trek to the Lake Sandoval, in the heart of the forest. The guide will explain about how the reserve was created, what the challenges that have to be faced for its conservation and other interesting facts about Madre de Dios, one of the most biodiverse basins of the entire world. Then we go for a canoe ride on the lake, where you will be able to spot giant river otters, a large variety of monkeys, macaws and fish, like the 2-meter-long paiche, one of the biggest species of river fish in the world.
Back to the lodge, we have lunch. We have some rest and then go out for a fun canopy walk in the highest Amazonian trees, ascending a 30-meters-high tower and passing through seven hanging bridges while taking in the views and spotting the local fauna - you will get to see toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys and the three-toed sloth, as well as many other animals. We will learn about the local ecosystem while continuing our walk onto a wooden bridge over local swamps.
We have done a lot today but there is still time for a nocturnal excursion to the rainforest - close your eyes and enjoy the sounds of the nocturnal life of this living, hidden world. Dinner will be waiting for us at the lodge.

DAY 3
Today we have breakfast and then start our activities with an interesting visit to a local farm where we will be shown the traditional techniques and methods of cultivation of locals - these techniques are in complete harmony with the environment. We will taste some fresh products before we move to the local botanical garden. Here, we will learn about the benefits and properties of natural plants - natural pharmacy in the Amazon has a tradition that dates back to centuries ago and still preserves the original principles. We then return to the lodge, have lunch and some time to relax. In the afternoon, we go out for a new canoe excursion through a natural pond where we will also try to learn how to fish with the "take and release" technique - our guide will show you how to do it. Before going back to the lodge for dinner, we will also go see the remains of a steamboat, the Fitzcarrald, and learn about its history.

DAY 4
We welcome this new day with a abundant breakfast before we set off for another impressive walk in the rainforest. Today we will particularly focus on local plants, like the Brazilian nut, which plays an important role in Madre de Dios and Tambopata economy. You will get to try to open them and taste them as well. After lunch we visit a local cacao plantation and take part in a really interesting workshop. You will learn how the chocolate making process works and take an active part in it - have fun learning how to select the best seeds and discover how they are fermented and treated. Peel the seeds and grind them to create an aromatic paste before we make our way back to the lodge. After dinner we will take another walk around the lodge, and spend the rest of the evening enjoying our last night in the Amazon.

DAY 5 - Unfortunately today our jungle experience has to come to an end, and after a good breakfast we have to leave the lodge and make our way back to Puerto Maldonado. Depending on timing, you might have some time to take a walk around the colorful local markets to taste some fresh food and purchase some souvenirs.
