DAY 1 – Cusco – Quesiuno – Lagoons – Ausangate
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
This amazing adventure starts at around 03:00 AM or 6:00 AM, depending on the type of transport service that you choose (can be private or shared), with the pickup from your accommodation in Cusco. We will start making our way out of the city for about 2.5 hours arriving at a picturesque village named Pitumarca where we will have a delicious breakfast that will give us the right energy for the trek.
We will then make our way to another village named Quesiuno, located in the middle of a number of multicolor mountains, some snowcapped peaks visible from afar and populated by typical Andean animals such as llamas and alpacas. Here we will set up camp. From here we will start our trek (about 11 AM) towards some beautiful lagoons near the majestic Apu Ausangate, the main mountain of the region. We will reach the first lagoon after a hike of about 7 km, and will stay there for about an hour to take in the unbelievable views of the surrounding scenery while our cook prepares a well-deserved and delicious lunch.
After eating we will continue our trek for another 4 km until we return to our campsite. We will have some rest, dinner and get ready for the night.
DAY 2 – Vinicunca – Rainbow Mountain – Cusco
Meals: breakfast and lunch
Today we will have a good breakfast at around 6 AM and will get ready to leave. We start our 3-hour-hike towards Rainbow Mountain itself and if we are lucky we can witness a spectacular sunrise on the way. We will be able to enjoy the view of numerous mountains around as well as of the Ausangate glacier, and we will be able to witness up close the local wildlife and camelids in their natural environment. The landscape of Vinicunca - the real name of Rainbow Mountain - is stunning. The whole area carries a mythological meaning related to the sacred Mother Earth, the Pachamama. We will reach a height of about 5029 m and here we will have about one hour to relax and take amazing pictures of this natural wonder. We then hike back for about 2.5 hours to reach Quesiuno and our transport, and will have lunch there. Once we are ready to go we then return to Cusco - arriving at approximately 19.00 - this is the end of this fantastic adventure.
