A 2 day trip to the Uros Floating Islands and Island of Taquile located on Lake Titicaca near Puno, Peru. Including a homestay for one night with an indigenous family on the remote island of Amantani and a kayaking section that makes it even more fun and adventurous! This tour is really popular and supports the local economy and give you a chance to experience the local way of life. This eye-opening experience will give you the opportunity to get in touch with local Aymara and Quechua communities while having fun on the highest navigable lake in the world.

ITINERARYITINERARY

DAY 1

You will be picked up around 7.30 am at your accommodation in Puno and will head towards the shores of Lake Titicaca - there, our professional guide will meet you and give you some paddling instructions so that you start the activity feeling completely confident with the kayak (this tour is perfectly suitable for beginners as well). You will then set off and during your kayak ride you will be able to spot the local fauna of the lake. It will take about one hour for you to get to the Uros Islands and once there the guide will give you information about the islands, how they are built, the local Uros peoples and their history and culture. There will be souvenirs for sale made locally on the islands and you will have free time to take photos. You will have the chance to visit two of the fifty floating islands of the area.

We will then start a 3-hour-boat ride towards the Island of Amantani where you will meet your host family and have lunch with them. After lunch and a rest period you will have time to take an optional (but recommended!) hike up to the highest viewpoint of the island in order to enjoy a breath-taking sunset on the lake. From up there (this point is located at at a height of 4150 m) you will have a stunning view of the Cordillera Real mountain range and of the Sun Island, located on the Bolivian side of the lake. You will then go back to the local house you will be staying in and, after dinner, the local families will organize a party for you - you will get to experience how friendly and welcoming these people are and to join them in their traditional dances.

DAY 2

This morning we get up early, have breakfast and unfortunately have to say goodbye to our host family. After breakfast we will move on and get to the island of Taquile - it takes one hour by boat to get there. This island is famous for its high quality textiles and was proclaimed World Heritage by UNESCO. Once on the island, you will go on a beautiful hike and will enjoy stunning views of the lake from a different point of view than the first day. During this walk you will visit the main square of Taquile and get to see and learn about local weaving techniques. Then you can have lunch (not included) before heading back to Puno (you will get dropped off at your accommodation at around 15.30).

Hotels for pickup - While most of the accommodations are in the pickup area for this tour, some of them aren't. Hotels that are definitely outside of the pickup area are: Libertador, Eco Inn, Casa Andina Private Collection, Posada del Inca, Mirador del Titicaca, Taypikala, Yacht, Jose Antonio. If staying at one of these, you will have to make your way to an alternative meeting point in the center of Puno.
Accomodation on Amantani Island - Sleeping arrangements are basic, you will have a private room but bathroom will be shared. Local houses are not all alike and accommodation varies slightly from family to family. Some houses may not have electricity.
There is a requirement of a minimum of 2 people booked in order for this tour to be confirmed at the standard price.

If you wish to book for just one person and confirm the tour you can pay the single person supplement.
