This is a 2-day-trek up to the archaelogical site of Huch'Uy Qosqo. This site is one of the main Inca sites in the Urubamba Valley near Cusco. The site has a great historical importance and means "Little Cusco" in the Quechua language. This not an easy hike but you will be rewarded by the incredible views of the surrounding landscape.

ITINERARYITINERARY
DAY 1 – Cusco – Pukamarca
You will be picked up at around 6.30 am from your hotel in Cusco and taken to Tambomachay on a private transport. We explore the local ruins and then continue our walk to the stunning Qoriqocha and Yanaqocha lagoons. We then reach the community of Pukamarca where we have lunch. You will also have the chance to visit locals' houses to witness upclose their way of living, as well as how they take care of the camelids. We set camp here and spend the night.
 
DAY 2 – Pukamarca – Huch’uy Qosqo – Cusco
After breakfast we say goodbye to the local families who have warmly welcomed us and we go on with our trek till we get to Huch’uy Qosqo. After lunch our knowledgeable guide will explain the history of the site while we walk through the ruins. In the afternoon we walk down to Lamay - there, a private transport will be waiting for you. You will be back in Cusco at around 19.00 and we will drop you off at your hotel.

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONIMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • This trek requires a minimum of 2 people to be confirmed (you can book for one person only and join another group if there is one confirmed).
  • Groups are usually from 2 to 8 but can be up to 12 people per group.
  • This is a challenging trek and goes up to 3600 meters above sea level. We strongly recommend that you acclimatize to an altitude of around 2500-2800 meters for some days before attempting this trek and it is important that you are in reasonable physical condition. Temperature changes quickly together with altitude. If you have any illnesses or conditions you MUST inform of these when booking. In some cases we will require a medical certificate in order to permit you to take part in tour.
 
WHAT TO BRING
  • Original passport 
  • Hiking boots or strong footwear, waterproof recommended!
  • Trekking poles
  • A backpack (30 to 40L) with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
  • Water bottle minimum 2 litres or plastic bottle
  • Rain gear - jacket + trousers or rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
  • Warm clothes, including fleece jacket. Thermal clothing is highly recommended and can be also worn in the sleeping bag during the night
  • Trekking pants, zip off model is recommended
  • Gloves or mittens, scarf, woollen hat for cold nights
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • Sandals or jogging shoes for comfort while at camp
  • Sleeping bag 
  • Flashlight/headlamp and extra batteries
  • Binoculars
  • Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
