If you are an experienced rider wanting to feel the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of riding a motorcycle at +5000 m above sea level, then this is the ideal tour for you. ITINERARYITINERARY
For this tour you get picked up at around 7.30 am from your accommodation and taken to an office in southern La Paz where you will meet with the guide and try on all your riding gear and test your motorcycle. Once you are ready, you will set off on an exciting and mostly off-road ride up to the city of El Alto and then leave the city behind as you start gaining altitude.
As you get closer to Chacaltaya you will gradually start to feel the temperature falling. A number of lagoons will be visible and you can make stops to take photos with the stunning landscape behind you. A winding, dusty road climbs steeply up the mountain and you will arrive at the 5100 meter refuge after approximately 2 hours from La Paz.
The views from the refuge and summit of Chalcaltaya are stunning and this is rare chance to get up this high without mountain climbing and equipment. Illimani and Huayna Potosi are just two of the mountains viewable.
Return to La Paz will be at around 17.30/18.00.
