Of course, you can explore yourself and we encourage you to do so, but you will learn a lot more if you are on a city walking tour with a local guide who can point out hidden points of interest that you would never have otherwise known.

La Paz City & Walking Tours

La Paz City Walking Tour Market Chilli Seller

We have several options for La Paz city tours, from the standard La Paz walking tour in the city center to more extended tours that include the neighboring city of El Alto and a trip on the teleferico on our Off the Beaten Track La Paz City Tour and you can extend your explorations further to also include the Valley of the Moon with a City Tour

Many tourists will just stay in the central area around the Witch's markets, Calle Sagarnaga and El Prado but the city is actually quite varied and it is possible to see some distinct differences between Southern area (Zona Sur)  , the central area and the neighbouring city of El Alto that is located on the plain above the city.

More people are beginning to venture to other parts though now since the opening of the Telefercico cable car system making it faster and easier to reach other parts of the city.

The southern area is clearly more affluent and can in parts resemble a US town whilst the fast growing El Alto is home to a poorer population that has grown partly due to the migration of camposinos from the rural areas looking for work and to improve their lives in a city.

The central part of the city is a mix of old colonial buildings with high rise apartment and office blocks, colorful markets and chaotic traffic and it is also home to many of the best hostel, hotel, restaurants and other attractions.

Sucre City Tour

Sucre City Tour Bolivia

We also offer a City Tour of Sucre, Bolivia's capital city (La Paz is de facto capital and seat of government).

For many this is the most pleasant city in the country and has an extremely well-preserved colonial city centre that has been part of the UNESCO heritage for more than 20 years.

A group of scientists supposedly once said that Sucre has the best weather in the world. Of course that is subjective but Sucre does always seem to be nicely sunny but not too hot.

Make sure you try the famous chocolate from Sucre which is known to be the best in the country and exported around the world.

Tarija City Tour

Tarija City Tour Bolivia

The city of Tarija is most famous as being the wine producing area of Bolivia and its vineyards have been responsible for some fantastic award winning wines in recent years.

Being located closer to the border of Argentina it can sometimes seem to have a bit of a different atmosphere to the rest of Bolivia, feeling more laid back than its other cities.

We arrange guided tours of Tarija City that depart twice daily monday to friday (weekends are for drinking wine!)

Santa Cruz City Tour

Santa Cruz City Tour Bolivia

Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the largest city of the country and is located in the tropical lowlands in Eastern Bolivia.

This city is often skipped by tourists as the most common attractions are located on the La Paz/Andean side of the country, but it's definitely worth a visit if you have the time.

Contrary to most other cities the central part of Santa Cruz actually seems quieter and more like a small town than you would expect from the country's largest city. This is due to laws banning the construction of buildings over a certain height in the center and it cuased the city to grow outwards in a ring format.

When visiting the city you should make sure you try some of its famous "masitas" or traditional baked goods - a favourite of ours is the yuca cheese snack called Cuñape of which the best ones are found in Santa Cruz.

Our Santa Cruz City Tour includes a masitia for you to try plus give you all the background history of this interesting city.
