Details
This one day climb is suitable for those wanting to try climbing in Bolivia but without much time. This climb can be undertaken by those with little mountain climbing experience or confident beginners. You must be somewhat acclimitised but it is also a good mountain to try to climb before attempting other higher peaks in the area.
Mankilisani may become Bolivias next ski slope now that the previous ski area Chacaltaya has lost its glaciers due to global warming.
The Climb
You will be picked up early morning around 8am from your central La Paz hotel or hostel and we start the drive to la Cumbre approximately 1 hour away. Here we can see the Cordillera Real Mountain range and we will be at an altitude of around 4700m. The first section of the climb will be rocky moraine and will take about 1 hours to complete after which we will put on our crampons for the ice section. Once on the ice there is the opportunity for those with some experience to try an 80 degree slope of ice (this can be avoided though for beginners). We will continue to climb up to a small ridge which we follow to the summit of 5392m. The summit overs great views of the surrounding mountains including nearby Huayna Potosi. After a break to take in the views and rest a little we will start our descent following the same route down.

For example if there are just 2 people and one guide and one person cannot continue the climb then both climbers must return with the guide and no refunds will be given. If there is a larger group one guide can bring 1 or 2 people down whilst others continue.
