In this one day tour from Rurrenabaque you will get to visit the Tacana community of San Miguel del Bala and learn about their culture & traditions. You will see first hand the community lifestyle and visit the surrounding rainforest with a knowledgeble local guide. You will also have a delicious lunch cooked by the skilled local cooks.
After a 45 minutes boat ride from Rurrenabaque you will arrive at the village and you can then choose 2 activies from the following list.
ACTIVITY 1: Community Visit
Visit the village with your guide and he will show you how the tourism project has benefitted the community and improved their daily lives. Learn to weave, make traditional thatched roof and use the sugar cane press to make a refreshing sugar cane juice drink.
ACTIVITY 2: Waterfall & Swimming
Your guide will take you by canoe to the mouth of a stream and from there after a 20 min hike you will find a refreshing waterfall and pool to swim in.You must be in reasonably good condition for the hike!
ACTIVITY 3: The Hunt
Go with your guide into the jungle where he will show you tha ancient trapping methods the Tacana use for hunting . He will also show you medicinal plants along the way.
ACTIVITY 4: The Canyon
Explore a stunning 150m long canyon in the jungle with a choice of a short walk or a 3 hours trek that passes through the canyon near the end.
ACTIVITY 5: San Miguel's Pharmacy
Explore the forest and discover the incredible variety of medicinal plants and their used, Your guide , who has used these plants al his life, will explain the many remedies that can be found and what they can be used to treat - stomach ache, colds, anemia, natural antibiotics and as insect repellents.

This tour starts in Rurrenabaque and DOES NOT include the cost of transport for getting there. We can arrange flight or buses for getting to Rurrenabaque. There is a minimum group size of 2 people for this tour to be confirmed (you can make a boking of one person and we can check to see if there are others booked for that date)

Groups are usually from 2 to 8 people in size and there can also be other groups in the lodges.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Malaria is extremely rare in the pampas and jungle near Rurrenabaque and there has not been any cases contracted locally for many years.That said, there are plenty of mosquitos in the area so it is considered a possibility. Other insect bourne diseases such as yellow fever and dengue are in the area so a good insect repellent and long sleeve shirt plus long trousers are essential.
