In the past few years there seems to have been a steady increase on building taking place in La Paz. In some areas high rise apartment blocks are springing up seemingly every month and the city centre has also been receiving a make over with some new building projects.
With the ever increasing volumes of traffic in the City an area the authorities have been trying to address is the traffic flow through the city. One of the projects that is near completion has been the remodeling of the traffic flow in around the San Francisco Plaza area which has seen the construction of a pedestrian bridge and new tunnel plus the restriction of traffic stopping and people walking across the roads. This is not nearly complete and the construction of a large new market area will be the final part of this regeneration of the area.

Another development in the south of the city sees the first entertainment Mega Center to be built in La Paz in the zone of Irpavi. It opened its doors to the public a couple of weeks ago although it is still not completed. Currently 10 of its 18 planned cinemas are open, a supermarket (Ketal) and some of the food courts. The completed centre will also house a 12 lane bowling alley, 200 shops / businesses, a food plaza ( with a Macdonalds rumored to be opening). The remaining construction should be completed by the end of October and costs are said to be over 19 million us$.

Another large project that is due to finish at the end of the year is the "Triplets Bridges" which consists of three connecting bridges spanning the valleys across south central area of La Paz. This should vastly reduce the time for travelling on some routes in this area.

Also, as part of the city center face lift we should be seeing early next year the "Millenium Plaza" which is being built at the end of Calle Camacho and there is already a "sky walk" that has been built that makes for a scenic stroll from Parque Laikacota.
Over all there seems to be alot of investment going on in the city , especially considering the world economic climate, and this can only be good for the "paceños" and its visitors.
